The Osun Police Command has arrested three suspected thugs allegedly terrorising students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) in Oke-Bale, Osogbo and its environs.
This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Thursday in Osogbo.
Ojelabi said the arrest followed complaints by students of the university about the alleged incessant activities of some thugs along their daily transit routes.
He said, following the complaints, police operatives embarked on patrols and raided a suspected criminal hideout in the area, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
The suspects were identified as Abass Quadri, 26; Olanrewaju Joshua, 24; and Yusuf Taiwo, 25.
He said the suspects allegedly stopped students on several occasions, threatened them and collected their mobile phones and money.
Ojelabi said the suspects were also alleged to have forcefully stopped students on their way, threatened them, collected their phones and compelled them to make fund transfers.
The police spokesperson said the suspects had been charged to court, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the group.
“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station,” he said.
Ojelabi assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
