Polaris Bank has hosted children of its employees to a day-of-fun, learning and workplace discovery as part of efforts to strengthen employee engagement and family relationships.
This is according to a statement made available to journalists by the bank on Friday in Lagos.
The initiative tagged “Bring Your Child to Work”, provided children aged six years and above with an opportunity to visit their parents’ workplace and learn about their professional roles.
The statement said children were selected through an internal trivia draw conducted among the bank’s staff members.
During the programme, the children participated in activities designed to promote learning, creativity, teamwork, networking and curiosity.
A major highlight was a guided tour of the bank’s premises, including the banking hall and various departments.
The tour gave the children firsthand experience of the banking environment and exposed them to the roles played by different teams in the institution.
Speaking at the event, Kayode Lawal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Polaris Bank, urged the children to remain curious and make the most of the experience.
Lawal, represented by Olanrewaju Oyekunle, Head of Human Resources, said the programme was designed to help children understand their parents’ professional lives.
“At Polaris Bank, we believe that work is more than meetings and desks. It is about solving problems, helping people, making life easier, learning and making a meaningful contribution,” he said.
He encouraged the children to ask questions, learn and have fun, while urging them to remain open to different career opportunities.
Oyekunle said the children could become bankers, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, technology experts or leaders of great organisations in future.
Another highlight was an interactive session facilitated by Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking.
Ozomah introduced the children to the fundamentals of banking, including how banks operate, the importance of saving and responsible financial habits.
The statement added that the children also learnt about the role of banks in helping individuals and businesses manage their finances.
The session encouraged them to ask questions and share their understanding of the lessons.
The programme also provided opportunities for the children to make new friends and interact with one another.
For participating parents, the initiative offered an opportunity to share an important aspect of their daily lives with their children.
The bank said the programme reinforced the values of work, responsibility, collaboration, service and continuous learning.
It added that the initiative reflected its commitment to employee wellbeing and engagement.
The bank said creating opportunities for employees to share workplace experiences with their families would help strengthen an inclusive and people focused workplace culture.
It said the experience gave the children an opportunity to understand banking, explore career possibilities and see their parents in a different professional light.
