PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) won all 14 chairmanship seats in Zamfara local government election held on Saturday.
Gatekeepers News reports that chairman of Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC), Bala Aliyu announced the results on Sunday in Gusau, the state capital.
Aliyu said the APC also won all 147 councillorship seats, adding that 18 political parties participated in the election.
He said, “Based on the results announced by the electoral and returning officers at different collation centres, at the end of the exercise, 14 candidates of the PDP won the chairmanship positions.”
“The 147 candidates of the same party won all the councillorship positions in the state.
“We appreciate stakeholders, especially security agencies, media organisations, CSOs, NGOs as well as political parties.”
The ZASIEC said the exercise was “conducted peacefully and successfully” across the state, and the electorate showed commendable orderliness.
Speaking after voting, Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal commended the “massive” turnout of voters and overall “peaceful” conduct.
Lawal noted that LGAs are the closest tier of government to the people and that the proximity enables them to address grassroots needs.
He said, “You know, elections are all about people and development, the election process starts from LGs to the state.”
“The LG poll is important with local government councils being the third tier of government and most closer to the people.”
