PDP Crisis Widens After Makinde’s Endorsement Of Tinubu Over Atiku

The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP may have widened with the apparent decision of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to endorse the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu ahead of his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

NEWSEXTRA24 reports that Makinde made his preference for Tinubu over Atiku at the conclave of some members of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation Afenifere, where he was represented by his deputy, Adebayo Lawal, who said that his principal gave the group’s decision his full backing

Though that endorsement has been disputed by Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo who NEWSEXTRA24 reports has dismissed the Tinubu endorsement as a gathering of mostly APC Yourba leaders.

However, giving his apparent endorsement for Tinubu, Makinde represented by his deputy had said:

“Every time there is an important occasion or decision in the Afenifere or any other committee in Yoruba land, Engineer Makinde has always given his input. We are not bonded by a political party but by tribal brotherhood. And he has sent me here to inform you that he endorses whatever your decision is,” Mr Lawal said.

NEWSEXTRA24 reports that Makinde along with four other governors led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State have held back from identifying with the party’s presidential campaigns. Wike has also gone ahead to endorse Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State ahead of his party’s candidate, Jide Adediran popularly known as Jandor.

Makinde and the four PDP governors are at the centre of the crisis in the party and this decision to endorse Tinubu over Atiku may have widened the gulf.
