Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has approved the graduation of 44 First-Class Honours students and sanctioned 57 others for academic deficiencies and examination misconduct.
Uredo Omale, Director, Public Affairs of PAAU, disclosed this in a statement in Lokoja on Sunday.
Omale said the decisions were taken at the 168th Regular Meeting of the university’s Senate on Sept. 30.
He said 56 students were withdrawn for poor academic performance and other academic deficiencies, while one student was expelled for gross examination misconduct.
According to him, the 44 first-class graduands came from departments including Forestry, Physiology, Agriculture, Computer Science, Economics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Anatomy and Biochemistry.
Others were Accounting, Arabic and Islamic Studies, public administration, business administration, and Banking and Finance.
He said Forestry produced the highest number of first-class graduands with eight, followed by Physiology with six.
“The breakdown shows that 11 students were withdrawn for poor academic performance, 38 for failure to register for two consecutive semesters, and seven for failed modules and course deficiencies,” he said.
Omale said the 38 students withdrawn for failure to register were from departments including Arts Education, Accounting, Physics, Forestry and Wildlife, Theatre Arts, Law, Animal Production, Arabic and Islamic Studies and Social Science Education.
He said the seven students withdrawn for failed modules were from the Medical Laboratory Science Department.
Omale said the Senate also approved the expulsion of Mr Jude Itodo of the Department of Plant Sciences and Biotechnology following the report of the Examination Misconduct Committee.
He said Itodo was expelled for gross examination misconduct.
Omale quoted the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Usman, as commending the Results Verification and Examination Misconduct Committees for their diligence and objectivity.
Usman congratulated the 44 first-class graduands and urged them to sustain the discipline and hard work that earned them the distinction.
He reiterated the commitment of the Senate and Management to academic excellence, discipline and quality assurance.
The withdrawn and expelled students were directed to surrender all university property, including identity cards, to the institution’s security unit before leaving the university.
