The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Wednesday distributed free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to 500 eligible students.
The council distributed the forms at its secretariat to support students from families facing financial challenges in registering for the examination.
The council chairman, Mr Akinola Idowu, was represented at the event by the Secretary to the local government, Dr. Sunday Ladipo.
In a statement delivered by Ladipo, Idowu said education remained a top priority of his administration.
He said his administration viewed education as a right rather than a privilege and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity.
He also urged them to make Orile-Agege proud through hard work and academic excellence.
Some parents who attended the event applauded the initiative, describing it as timely and helpful to families struggling with examination registration.
One of the beneficiary parents, Mrs Modupe Adelaja, described the initiative as an answered prayer for many households.
“This support will lift many parents. We are grateful to the council chairman for remembering the education of our children at this critical time,” she said.
Another beneficiary parent, Mrs Modele Oluojo, commended the council chairman for consistently prioritising education and youth development in Orile-Agege LCDA.
Oluojo said the initiative demonstrated the chairman’s commitment to the future of children in the community.
“He has always shown commitment to our children’s future. This proves that leadership with a human face is still possible in our community,” she said.
Another beneficiary parent, Mr Thomas Ogunsakin, said the distribution came at the right time for families facing economic challenges.
“We pray it is continuous and that this gesture will encourage many students to aim higher in their academic pursuits,” he said.
Another beneficiary parent, Mrs Titi Oyebanjo, appreciated the chairman and urged him to organise coaching for the beneficiaries.
“We appreciate him greatly. We will appreciate him more if he can arrange lessons to prepare the children for the GCE examination,” she said.
