The Wamufat Youth Community Development Foundation (WYCDF) says it will host the second edition of the Wamufat Sports Camp and ‘Run Ogun’, from Aug. 3 to Aug. 8 in Ogun.
The event is in partnership with the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) the U.S.-based Run Your City (RYC) and the Agroterra Resort.
This is contained in a statement by Fatimoh Muhammed, President of the WYCDF on Sunday in Lagos.
According to the statement, the six-day camp is aimed at empowering young athletes through sports, mentorship and character development.
It added that children between the ages of 10 and 16 would receive free coaching in athletics, football, chess, netball, golf, ayo and tennis.
The statement noted that participants would also undergo daily lessons on values such as gratitude, respect, excellence, teamwork, resilience and integrity.
It added that experienced coaches and mentors would also guide participants in building discipline, self-belief and good character before taking part in a community ‘Race Day’ on Aug. 8.
According to the statement, the second edition follows the success of the maiden camp, held in August 2025, which attracted more than 450 children at the Agroterra Sports Complex in Joga-Orile in Ogun.
“The post-camp evaluations showed that nearly 60 per cent of the participants tried a new sport for the first time, while confidence levels improved significantly.
“The overall experience received a rating of nine out of 10 from participants,” it said.
The statement recalled that the first edition also featured Nigerian sports icons, including Olympic medallist Mary Onyali and former Super Eagles international, Mutiu Adepoju, who mentored and inspired the young athletes.
According to the statement, the success of the maiden edition shows what can be achieved when communities invest in children.
“Last year showed us what is possible when a community rallies around its children.
“This second edition is about going further, reaching more children, deepening the mentorship and reminding every young person that they matter, on and off the field,”it stated.
It added that the NSSF would oversee the technical delivery and operations of the camp.
According to the statement, the RYC will provide coaching and share experiences from its global ‘Run Your City’movement, including chapters such as Run Bugesera and Run Kochi.
It added that the Agroterra Resort would host the event.
The statement said the Race Day on Aug. 8, with the theme: “Integrity and Honesty”, would feature age-category races, an awards ceremony and a closing celebration for the community.
