Oba of Benin suspends two chiefs

Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has suspended two chiefs from the palace.

The Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor, announced this in a statement issued on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Irabor identified the suspended chiefs as the Izuwako of Benin, John Igiehon; and, the Oyenmwensoba of Benin, Aimuiukpomonyako Oghogho (Ebengho).

Irabor stated that the suspension was with immediate effect.

He explained that the suspension was due to their prolonged absence from the palace, which resulted in their failure to fulfil their palace responsibilities.

Irabor urged the public to be wary of “unscrupulous chiefs” who are no longer functioning in the palace.
