The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged employers to improve on the welfare of corp members posted to their organisations.
The Coordinator of NYSC in Zamfara, Mallam Muhammad Ahmed, made the call at the 2025 Zamfara NYSC Management/Corps Employers Workshop on Thursday in Gusau.
Ahmed said the appeal was necessary due to the challenges corps members face in adapting to new environments, especially amid the current economic hardship.
He emphasised the importance of creating a conducive environment to boost productivity and enable corp members discharge their duties diligently.
According to him, poor welfare, inadequate accommodation, rejection at postings, underutilisation, and employers aiding corp members to evade service continue to hinder successful completion of the service year.
He commended the state government for its commitment to improve the welfare of corp members in Zamfara, while describing the relationship between the NYSC, employers and other stakeholders in the state as cordial.
“I want to use the forum to appreciate the Zamfara Government for its commitment to the welfare and security of corp members, particularly for approving new allowances for corps members,” he said.
The coordinator also called for stronger collaboration among NYSC stakeholders in the state to address challenges facing corp members, and maximise their contributions to the state’s development.
On his part, the state commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Tasiu Musa-Shinkafi reiterated the state government’s support to the scheme.
He acknowledged the collaboration of corp members and stakeholders with the government in ensuring their welfare and security.
He emphasised the role of Gov. Dauda Lawal’s administration in promoting national unity and driving development through its commitment to security and infrastructure in the state.
“In Zamfara State, we have witnessed firsthand, the transformative impact of corp members in critical areas such as education, health, agriculture, and community development.
“Corp members’ dedication and skills have complemented our efforts to meet the aspirations of our people,” he said.
Newsextra24 reports that the workshop was organised by the NYSC management in the state, in collaboration with employers of corp members and other stakeholders.
The theme for the workshop was “Issues and Perspectives in Contemporary Corps Administration: The Role of Corps Employers Through the Use of Emotional Intelligence as a Panacea”.
