DURING his visit to NYSC Sokoto and Kebbi State orientation camps, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), urged the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream One corps members to focus on developing their host communities with projects aimed at enhancing the residents’ standard of living.

He emphasized the importance of Community Development Service (CDS) as one of the scheme’s compulsory cardinal programmes, stressing that active participation in CDS is a prerequisite for obtaining the certificate of national service.
Gen Ahmed also appealed to corps members to assess the needs of their host communities and obtain approval from NYSC before initiating any projects.
He advised, “Source for funds to execute projects within your host communities. It is imperative to note that sponsoring projects with your monthly allowances is an offence.”
In addition, he cautioned the corps members against accepting free rides from strangers and emphasized the need to adhere to security guidelines, particularly when traveling and upon deployment.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Yakubu Yaro Usman, the Sokoto State Coordinator of NYSC, commended the corps members at the Wamakko camp for their law-abiding and dutiful conduct.
Likewise, Mrs. Okolo Aghata Banki, the Kebbi State coordinator, highlighted the collaborative efforts of a total of 154 camp officials, including NYSC staff and personnel from other agencies, to ensure the security and well-being of the 1,088 registered corps members at the camp.
