The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa, says it has detained a security guard and three others for alleged vandalism of aluminum roofing sheets at the School of Nursing Hadejia.
This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Dutse by Badruddeen Tijjani, the spokesman of the corps.
Tijjani said that operatives of the Gandun Sarki Division of the corps apprehended the suspects on Tuesday, July 28.
He said that the operatives intercepted the suspects (names withheld) behind the perimeter fence of the school, and recovered 13 square metres of aluminum roofing sheets.
The spokesman said that the roofing sheets were suspected to have been removed from the ongoing renovation works at the school.
Tijjani said preliminary investigation showed that the prime suspect was a watch guard in the school, while the remaining three, included a carpenter, an apprentice and a commercial tricycle operator.
“Consequently, the corps has formally drawn the attention of the management of the school to the identified security gap, and advised the institution to strengthen its internal security measures, to prevent future occurrence,” he said.
Tijjani said that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
He quoted the Commandant of the corps, Mr Muhammad Ingawa as reaffirming commitment to protect critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
Ingawa warned criminal elements involved in vandalism, theft and other forms of economic sabotage to desist from the acts.
“The corps will continue to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering and enforcement operations to ensure offenders are brought to justice,” Ingawa said.
