NCAA probes Ibom Air passenger incident

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has opened an investigation into the altercation between a passenger, Comfort Emanson, and Ibom Air crew members.

NCAA officials on Wednesday met in Abuja with key crew members, including Julie Edwards, as part of the inquiry.

Spokesperson Michael Achimugu confirmed the meeting, adding that several directorates—Aviation Security, Operations, Licensing, Training Standards, Legal, and Consumer Protection—were jointly handling the probe.

Emanson, who was expected to appear before the Authority on Thursday with her lawyers, had earlier been arraigned for allegedly assaulting a flight attendant and clashing with airport staff on a Uyo–Lagos flight.

A viral video showed airline officials restraining her during the incident.

She was briefly remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre before being released after Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo directed Ibom Air to withdraw its complaint.

The NCAA said its findings would be impartial, stressing its commitment to professionalism and safety in the aviation sector.
