THE national grid has been shut down by electricity workers in response to the announcement of an indefinite strike by organized labour unions. Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for Transmission Company of Nigeria, confirmed the shutdown to NewsNow on Tuesday.

It was reported that the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) heeded the directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress and ceased their services around 11:20 am on Monday, resulting in a nationwide blackout. The blackout is being experienced in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
This strike comes after the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress declared a nationwide indefinite strike, despite a court order prohibiting such action. In response, the Presidency expressed disapproval, citing it as a disregard for the judiciary and a disruption to the nation’s economy and social activities. The strike notice was issued by the unions over an assault on Joe Ajaero, the President of NLC, on November 1, 2023, in Imo State.
