The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a law to amend the College of Education (COE) Akwanga Law 2023, to upgrade its status to a degree-awarding institution and for other related matters, 2026.
Dr Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the House, announced this during the house plenary on Wednesday in Lafia.
The speaker said that when assented to by the State Governor, the bill would empower the institution to award degree certificates and improve the standard of education in the college.
Jatau added that the bill, when signed into law, would also generate employment and improve the standard of living of the people.
“The bill will give many people in the state the opportunity to acquire higher education, especially university education,” he said.
He directed the Clerk of the house to communicate the house’s resolution to Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his necessary action.
Earlier, Mr Suleiman Azara, Majority Leader of the house, moved a motion for the bill to scale through third reading.
Mr Luka Zhekaba, Minority Leader of the house, seconded the motion.
The house unanimously passed the bill following overwhelming support for its passage.
