Uganda’s MTN Foundation, in partnership with Smart Girls Foundation Uganda, has celebrated the graduation of 201 young people who completed digital and vocational training programmes aimed at improving employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and economic independence.
The graduating cohort included 183 participants from the Girls in Tech programme, while 18 young people completed vocational training in areas including electrical installation, plumbing, motor vehicle mechanics and tailoring.
Since 2019, the partnership between MTN Foundation and Smart Girls Foundation has provided more than 1,300 young people with digital and ICT skills, while over 130 people have received vocational training, creating pathways to employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
The programme places a strong focus on inclusion, with girls and young women accounting for 80% of participants, while the remaining 20% of opportunities are reserved for young men.
MTN Foundation said the initiative is part of its broader efforts to prepare young people for the future of work and Uganda’s digital economy through programmes including MTN ACE and the MTN Skills Academy.
The Foundation said it expects the graduates to apply their skills toward securing jobs, establishing businesses and creating impact within their communities.
