Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new head coach.
The Italian replaces Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium and has signed a deal that will run until June 2029.
Maresca’s appointment marks the beginning of a new era for the Premier League side following Guardiola’s trophy-laden spell in Manchester.
The 45-year-old is expected to take immediate charge of first-team preparations as City begin plans for the new season.
Newsextra24 reports that Maresca is no stranger to Manchester City, having previously worked under Guardiola as part of the club’s coaching staff.
He was part of the backroom team during City’s historic treble-winning campaign, a period that further strengthened his understanding of the club’s playing identity and internal structure.
His return is seen as a move by City’s hierarchy to maintain continuity in style, philosophy and dressing-room standards after Guardiola’s exit.
Maresca is known for his possession-based approach, structured build-up play and tactical discipline, qualities believed to have influenced the club’s decision to hand him the role.
Guardiola’s departure leaves a major gap at the Etihad, given the success he enjoyed during his time in charge.
However, City officials believe Maresca’s knowledge of the club and his tactical background make him a strong candidate to lead the next phase of the project.
The new manager will also be involved in the club’s transfer strategy ahead of the new campaign, as City look to strengthen key areas of the squad.
His immediate task will be to settle into the role, assess the first-team group and work with the recruitment department on summer plans.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported the development on X on Tuesday, saying Maresca had already signed his contract with the club.
Romano wrote, “Enzo Maresca has already signed a three-year deal as Manchester City’s new manager. Agreement until June 2029 and a new chapter to start soon at #MCFC, with Maresca fully involved in the transfer strategy. Here we go, 100% confirmed.”
The confirmation has ended speculation over who would succeed Guardiola at the Etihad.
Manchester City are expected to officially unveil Maresca in the coming days.
Further details about his backroom staff are also expected to be announced by the club.
Maresca will now be tasked with sustaining City’s high standards while shaping a fresh chapter for the club after one of the most successful managerial eras in its history.
