
A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 22-year-old labourer, Emmanuel Ugwu, to 6 months in prison for stealing a six Kilo Gramme (KG) gas cylinder with three Kilogrammes gas content.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos in her judgment, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N50,000.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on March 8, by one Gift Ugwu, the complainant.
Thiawur said that the convict stole the cylinder with 3kg gas content valued at N46, 400 from the complainant’s house before he was caught.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
