The Association of Resident Doctors, Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (ARD-KWASUTH), has suspended its seven-day industrial action following interventions by the Kwara Government.
The association announced the suspension in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin and signed by the President of ARD-UITH, Dr Abdulfatai Abdulazeez.
Newsextra24 reports that the industrial action was embarked upon by doctors under the Kwara Doctors Forum.
They comprise members of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), and the Nigerian Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP).
Abdulazeez said the decision followed the state government’s approval of three key demands of the association.
According to the statement, the demands approved include the payment of the reviewed 2024 Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors in the state.
Others are the payment of the 2025 Accoutrement Allowance for eligible doctors and suspension of further deductions of Kwara State Health Insurance (KWHIA) contributions from members’ salaries.
The association, however, clarified that other outstanding demands were still being negotiated with the government.
“We wish to clarify that other outstanding demands remain under consideration and are still being discussed and negotiated with the government.
“The suspension of the strike should therefore not be interpreted as the complete resolution of all outstanding issues,” said Abdulazeez.
The association directed its members to resume normal duties and urged them to return to their respective duty posts to continue providing quality healthcare services to patients.
It also appreciated members for their understanding, solidarity and patience during the industrial action, and appealed to them to remain calm and united as negotiations continue.
Abdulazeez also reiterated the commitment of the association to constructive engagement and dialogue with relevant authorities to achieve comprehensive resolution of outstanding demands.
