Kogi govt reaffirms commitment to Education development

THE Kogi government on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at repositioning the education sector across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Mr Wemi Jones, gave the assurance during the 2025 matriculation ceremony at the Kogi State Study Centre of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in Lokoja.

Jones stressed the vital role of teacher training, stating that the future of children rests firmly in the hands of dedicated educators.

Represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs Omolayo Onozare, he urged students to remain focused and committed to their studies.

He noted Gov. Ahmed Ododo’s substantial budgetary support for education, saying teacher training remains a non-negotiable priority.

NTI’s Director-General, Prof. Sadiya Daura, said the institute’s programmes are designed to equip students with essential skills for national progress.

Represented by NTI Kogi State Coordinator, Alh. Tijani Yusuf, she cautioned students against misconduct and reiterated NTI’s zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline.

She encouraged students to make meaningful contributions to society after completing their training.

Dr Samuel Atuluku, Director of News and Publications, Kogi Ministry of Information, expressed worry over the growing “get rich quick syndrome” among youths.

He appealed to parents to enforce discipline, urging them to guide their children towards a brighter future.

The ceremony featured the administration of the matriculation oath to students in NCE, Bachelor’s, and Postgraduate Education programmes.

It marked a major milestone for the students, who are expected to gain valuable skills for national development.
