Kenya issues Warning Amid Anti-immigrant Riots in UK

KENYA has issued a travel advisory for its citizens planning to visit the United Kingdom, urging them to exercise caution due to ongoing anti-immigrant riots spreading across England. The Kenyan High Commission in London is actively monitoring the situation and has advised Kenyan nationals to follow the guidance of local authorities.

‘Kenyans residing in or traveling to the United Kingdom are urged to stay away from protest areas and remain vigilant,’ the High Commission posted on X.

Nigeria also issued a similar warning on Monday for Nigerian nationals in the UK.

Korir Sing’oei, Kenya’s principal secretary for foreign affairs, highlighted the severity of the situation in a post on X earlier this week, describing it as ‘deeply worrying.’ He urged Kenyans to be cautious and stay safe.

The UK has been experiencing far-right riots, with mobs targeting Muslims, minority groups, and migrants. The unrest was fuelled by false online claims that a Muslim asylum seeker was responsible for a fatal stabbing in Southport, England last week. This misinformation led to increased tensions and violence. In the tragic incident, three young girls were killed, and five more children were critically injured during a knife attack at a dance class last Monday.

Both the Kenyan and Nigerian governments emphasise the importance of staying informed and adhering to safety protocols as the volatile situation in the UK unfolds.
