Kenya is seeking to deepen cooperation with the United States on digital economy development, with a focus on artificial intelligence, digital skills and jobs, cybersecurity, data governance, cross-border data flows and investment.
The discussions took place during a meeting chaired by ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, who received a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Kenya led by its Chief Executive Officer, Paul Muthaura.
The engagement focused on strengthening Kenya-US collaboration as Kenya positions itself as a leading regional digital hub.
Kabogo emphasised the need to ensure that investments in digital skills translate into tangible employment opportunities for young people. He called for closer collaboration with American technology companies to align training programmes with industry demand and establish clearer pathways from training to certification, employment and entrepreneurship.
The discussions also covered the growing importance of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data governance, as well as the role of cross-border data flows and investment in supporting Kenya’s digital economy.
Kabogo said the upcoming AmCham Summit in September would provide an opportunity to turn the discussions into concrete partnerships and commitments.
