According to Premium Times, local chapters of the APC in Kano have initiated preparations for a victory celebration, distributing new party dresses, colloquially referred to as ‘aso-ebi,’ to members in anticipation of the planned swearing-in of its candidate, Nasir Gawuna.

In the lead-up to the Supreme Court’s ruling, both the APC and the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) engaged in religious observances. Fasting and animal sacrifices were reported among members, with prayers sought for favorable outcomes in the legal proceedings.

Kano, being predominantly Muslim, has witnessed a heated political rivalry between the APC and NNPP, further intensified by the disputed governorship election results from March 2023.

The APC had contested the election outcome, securing victories at the tribunal and the Court of Appeal. Now, the Supreme Court is set to provide the final resolution to this protracted legal battle.

Premium Times observed APC members in Fagge Local Government Area distributing the new dresses adorned with the symbol of President Bola Tinubu’s cap, commonly associated with the party. The party leaders encouraged swift sewing of the attire in anticipation of a favorable Supreme Court judgment.

Confident in the evidence presented in previous legal battles, APC members express optimism about the upcoming ruling. Faisal Ibrahim, an APC member, remarked, “I have finished preparation for the swearing-in ceremony, and I am confident of victory because the evidence we relied upon and won the cases at the Election Petition Tribunal and the Appeal Court are relevant also at the Supreme Court.”

Ahmad Dangwarzo, a party leader in Fagge D1 ward, stated widespread distribution of such dresses across the state for the planned swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Gawuna.

“The APC leaders across the state are distributing different kinds of clothing in their respective council areas and we are confident of winning at the Supreme Court unless the constitution is changed but nothing will change the judgement of the previous courts,” Mr Dangwarzo said.

The North-west APC supporters group, through a statement signed by Abdullahi Ganduje’s former Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, announced mobilization efforts to welcome Mr. Gawuna, expressing hope for a favorable Supreme Court judgment.

While the APC members actively prepare for the swearing-in ceremony, the NNPP is yet to disclose its plans. The Supreme Court is expected to deliver its ruling on Friday.
