June 12: Osifo urges Nigerians to uphold patriotism, democracy

Chief Stanley Osifo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians to remain patriotic.

He made the call in statement on Friday while marking Democracy Day, describing June 12 as more than a public holiday.

Osifo, a former presidential aspirant, said the day represented Nigerians’ collective will and democratic sacrifices.

“Today, June 12, is much more than a public holiday. It reminds us of what unity can achieve,” he said.

He said the occasion honoured citizens’ resilience, commitment to freedom, and sacrifices made for democracy.

“It stands as a tribute to our collective resilience, unwavering faith in freedom, and sacrifices by patriots,” Osifo said.

The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to support one another and engage constructively in nation-building.

“Together, we can build a brighter, more secure and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

Osifo said Democracy Day belonged to every Nigerian, regardless of location, background, or status.

He noted that Nigerians at home and abroad shared responsibility for sustaining democracy.

He said: “No matter where you are celebrating, today belongs to all Nigerians.

“From Lagos and Abuja to Kano and Enugu, we are united by a common democratic heritage,” he said.

He said the nation’s democratic journey was built on courage, sacrifice, and hope.

The former aspirant said Nigeria’s strength rested on the determination and aspirations of its citizens.

He said: “Our democracy grows stronger when citizens participate and uphold justice and fairness.

“We must never underestimate the power of the people’s voice in shaping the nation’s future.”

Osifo paid tribute to heroes of the June 12 struggle, saying their sacrifices remained inspiring.

“The spirit of June 12 reminds us of heroes who stood firmly for justice,” he said.

“Their courage should inspire us to protect and strengthen our democracy.”

He stressed that national unity remained essential for Nigeria’s progress and development.

Osifo expressed optimism about the country’s future, citing its human resources as a major asset.

He said: “Nigeria’s greatest resource is not beneath the ground but the brilliant minds of Nigerians.

“Our progress depends on how well we nurture and deploy this invaluable resource.
