The Imo State government has alerted Nigerians to what it called a sinister plan by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to use the excuse of insecurity in the state to organise a “planned phantom protest in Abuja, scheduled for this week”.
The state government alleged that the main opposition had recruited unsuspecting indigenes and miscreants to be ferried to Abuja for the planned protest at diplomatic missions.
It said the recruits for the protests would claim to be relatives of victims of insecurity in the state and blame the government for the killings.
A statement yesterday in Owerri, the state capital, by Information and Strategy Commissioner Declan Emelumba said the PDP, rattled by the defeat staring it in the face in next November governorship election, was employing desperate antics to cause confusion in the state.
The statement added: “Fully aware of its lack of capacity and integrity to win the upcoming governorship election in Imo State this November, the PDP is now resorting to this barefaced falsehood embedded in hypocrisy as the last ditch effort to win the sympathy of gullible members of the society.
