Why I Stopped Acting Movies – Kemi Afolabi

Actress Kemi Afolabi reveals she has just 5 years to live

POPULAR Yoruba movie actress, Kemi Afolabi, has opened up about her recent hiatus from acting, citing health challenges as the primary reason behind her decision. In an interview on Kunleafod TV’s official YouTube channel with fellow actor Kunle Afod, she shared the harrowing experience that led to her temporary withdrawal from the movie industry.

Afolabi disclosed that her health crisis began unexpectedly during her housewarming party, where she collapsed. Despite seeking initial treatments, her condition persisted, prompting her to consult her doctor for a comprehensive medical examination. “The sickness started on the day of my housewarming party when I fell down,” she explained. “I took some treatments, but the sickness wouldn’t go away, and that was when I had to call my doctor for a proper examination of my health.”

The actress revealed that her condition, later diagnosed as lupus, worsened to the point where it affected several vital organs in her body. As a result, she spent months moving between hospitals in Nigeria, undergoing various treatments. Ultimately, she decided to seek advanced medical care abroad.

“I stopped acting in movies when some vital organs were damaged in my body due to lupus. I decided to travel abroad, and I thank God that I received good treatment in America,” Afolabi stated. She also praised Nigerian doctors for their contributions, noting that her journey to recovery began with the treatments she received locally.

Her story sheds light on the impact of lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, and the importance of timely medical intervention. Afolabi’s revelations serve as a testament to her resilience and determination to prioritize her health despite her passion for acting.
