GUNMEN have once again abducted more than 100 individuals from Mutumji, Sabongari Mahuta, Kwanar Dutsi, and Unguwar Kawo communities in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. This incident occurred due to the failure of the villagers to pay the levies imposed on them by the bandits, who have been terrorizing the communities.

According to Alhaji Muhammad Usman, a villager from Mutumji, the bandits arrived at the community around 8 pm and began shooting indiscriminately, causing residents to flee for safety. It was reported that the bandit’s kingpin, Damina, had imposed a total of N110 million in harvesting levies on the communities, providing them with a two-week ultimatum to comply.
The breakdown of the imposed levies included N50 million on Mutumji, N30 million on Kwanar Dutsi, N20 million on Sabongari Mahuta, and N10 million on Unguwar Kawo. The communities had begun contributing the money when the terrorists attacked on Friday evening.
The spokesperson of the State’s Police command was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting. This abduction occurred only a week after another incident where villagers were abducted in the Ruwandoruwa community within the same Local Government Area. Additionally, earlier in the year, the bandits killed a Divisional Police Officer and other police officers in Maru town within the same Local Government Area of the State.
