Fatima Alkali Declines President Tinubu’s appointment

Fatima Alkali rejects appointment as senate confirms law reform commission nominees | TheCable

Fatima Alkali has declined her nomination to serve as a commissioner at the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.

She opted out of the appointment made by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025.

Alkali, who was selected to represent the North-East region, formally communicated her decision to the presidency, the Senate committee on judiciary, human rights, and legal matters disclosed on Tuesday while presenting its screening report.

She was nominated alongside Professor Dakas Dakas from the North-Central and Uchenna Okolocha from the South-South.

Unlike Alkali, the other two nominees appeared before the Senate panel and were screened.

The committee confirmed that both men satisfied all legal and professional requirements and recommended their confirmation.

Following a voice vote during plenary, the Senate approved their appointments.

Meanwhile, a new nominee is expected to be presented to fill the now-vacant North-East slot, with indications that the replacement may also be a female candidate.
