Ecobank Nigeria has partnered with AD Consulting to bring together leading Nigerian artists and architects for an exhibition on creativity, cultural heritage and legacy in Lagos.
The bank disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, announcing, “The Convergence: The Iconic Architect & the Icons of Art”, scheduled for Oct. 1 to Oct. 7.
According to the statement, the cultural experience will hold at the Ecobank Pan African Centre (EPAC), Victoria Island, Lagos.
It said the event would bring together architect and Founder of AD Consulting, Olajumoke Adenowo, and leading Nigerian visual artists to explore the relationship between architecture, Art and African heritage.
Artists whose works will feature include Abiodun Olaku, Bunmi Babatunde, Kehinde Adewuyi, Tayo Quaye, Mufu Onifade, Alex Nwokolo and Fidelis Odogwu.
Others are Kassi Nathalie, Dotun Popoola, Steve Ekpenisi, Collins Abinoro and Joshua Nmesirionye.
According to the bank, the initiative goes beyond a typical exhibition to provide a platform for conversations on art, architecture, identity, cultural memory and legacy.
Ecobank said the event would open on Oct. 1 with a special Collectors and Patrons Day for invited collectors, patrons, high-net-worth individuals and distinguished guests.
It added that the wider exhibition would continue from Oct. 2 to Oct. 7, giving a broader audience the opportunity to experience the works.
Other activities listed for the programme include a Patron’s Preview, Founders’ Cocktail featuring an Architecture Salon and a Collectors’ Circle.
The statement quoted Mr Austen Osokpor, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Ecobank Nigeria, as saying that the partnership reflected the bank’s commitment to supporting African creative excellence.
“Africa’s wealth is not defined by financial capital alone.
“Our culture, creativity, intellectual capital and heritage are equally important assets that must be preserved, celebrated and passed on to future generations,” he said.
He said the initiative would bring together artists, architects, collectors and cultural patrons while creating opportunities for cultural exchange and patronage.
The bank said the event comes amid growing global attention on African artists and architects, alongside increased engagement by collectors and cultural patrons with African creative expression.
Also, Adenowo, Founder of AD Consulting, said architecture and art remained enduring expressions of a people’s identity and heritage.
“Architecture and art are two of the most enduring expressions of who we are as a people.
“They tell our stories, preserve our heritage and give form to the values we want to pass on to future generations,” she said.
According to her, the initiative is built around her NeoHeritage philosophy, which connects Africa’s cultural inheritance with contemporary creative expression.
