Don’t play politics, NYSC DG warns corps members

Ahead of the closure of the 2024 Batch ‘A Stream 1’ orientation programme in Sokoto, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a stern warning to corps members against getting involved in local politics during their service year.
Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director-General of the NYSC, addressed the corps members during the event.
He emphasized the importance of their role in positively impacting the lives of their host communities and urged them not to engage in political activities.
Instead, he encouraged them to accept their postings with an open mind and focus on contributing constructively to their designated areas.
Representing the DG, Alhaji Usman Yaro, the Sokoto State NYSC Coordinator, reiterated the message, urging corps members to embrace their assigned localities and actively participate in community development initiatives. He discouraged them from seeking redeployment, emphasizing the value of adapting to and integrating into their host communities.
Yaro emphasized the importance of respecting the local culture and traditions, urging corps members to maintain peace and resilience while adding value to their respective communities. He highlighted the potential for many corps members to choose to remain in their assigned areas even after completing their service year.
Additionally, Yaro underscored the significance of prioritizing personal security. He urged corps members to familiarize themselves with the security guidelines provided by the NYSC and to adhere to them diligently, emphasizing the shared responsibility for ensuring their safety.
Brigadier-General Ahmed emphasized the importance of skills development and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among corps members. He encouraged them to seize the opportunity to become self-sufficient and to explore avenues for creating jobs and generating wealth beyond their service year.
