A Kano Shari’a Court, on Monday, ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Mahmuda Rabiu, in a correctional center for alleged assault and causing grievous hurt.
The defendant, who lives at Gwammaja Quarters, Kano, was facing a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous hurt.
The Judge, Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional center until April 9, and adjourned the case for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, informed the court that one Ibrahim Sunusi, who also resides in Gwammaja Quarters Kano, reported the matter at Dala Police Division on Feb. 24.
Abubakar alleged that on the same day at about 3:45p.m, the defendant had a misunderstanding with the complainant.
“In the process, the defendant picked offence and got angry, which later led to a fight and the defendant used a sharp iron and inflicted serious injury on the complainants right knee,” he said.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 165 and 158 of the Penal Code.
