Court

A 35-year-old businessman, Shehu Saleh, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abuja for allegedly defrauding a business partner.

The defendant, who resides in Karu Village, Abuja, is being tried for criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Mr Stephen Obioma, of Karu Site, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on July 11.

Osho said that the complainant alleged that sometime in 2022, he entrusted 10 trucks, valued at N1 million and two motorcycles valued at the sum of N538,000, to the defendant for commercial purposes.

He said that the defendant, with intent to cheat the complainant, dishonestly converted the property to his own personal use and failed to give account of them.

The offences, according to him, contravene sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Haruna Haruna, however, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N400,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Sept. 9 for hearing.
