THE New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ekiti on Tuesday expressed concern over the recent board appointments made by the Federal Government (FG).
The party, in Ado-Ekiti, alleged that the appointments were lopsided in a statement by its state chairman, Mr Ade Ayeni.
The party took on the Ekiti Government and the National Assembly (NASS), alleging that Ekiti was not duly represented in the appointments.
According to the party, the FG recently released the appointments of governing boards of universities, polytechnics and other institutions, with Ekiti having only six slots.
It said it was more concerned with the lopsided sharing of the appointment slots, claiming that Ekiti was abysmally shortchanged.
“There were 555 appointments into the institutions shared among 36 states of the federation, so, we are now asking, ‘What was the sharing formula?’
“On equal sharing formula, a state is supposed to have at least 15 slots, but it became worrisome where Ekiti was allotted only six slots, while Osun, for instance, had about 22,” said the party.
NNPP, therefore, advised the state government and other stakeholders to raise a high-powered delegation to meet President Bola Tinubu for redress.
It, however, assured residents of its preparedness to take over the helm of governance come 2026. (NAN)
