Bago inaugurates 500-unit housing estate layout in Kontagora

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago on Monday inaugurated the layout plan for a proposed 500-unit housing estate in Kontagora Local Government Area, as part of efforts to expand access to affordable housing in the state.

Bago said that the 40-hectare site, owned by the state government, was originally reserved for the Radio Niger Corporation but had suffered encroachment over the years.

He said the government would provide the necessary site-and-services infrastructure to make the land suitable for allocation to prospective homeowners.

The governor announced that the housing estate would be named after the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Muhammad Mu’azu II, adding that the development would align with the urban renewal vision of his administration.

“This will open up Kontagora and also give the teeming population the opportunity to own houses here.

“The Renewed Hope Housing Project is also partnering with us to ensure that about 500 housing units are built here,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Bello Agwara, Commissioner for Lands and Survey, said the proposed layout would comprise about 305 residential plots of different sizes, including 100-by-50 and 100-by-30 plots, as well as three commercial plots.

Agwara also said the estate would also feature a neighbourhood centre, shopping mall, children’s playground, clinic and other public amenities.

He added that the layout was designed in line with the New Niger Agenda of the Bago administration.
