The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, says the ongoing expansion of the Nigerian Army will strengthen its capacity to protect critical energy infrastructure and other strategic national assets.
Shaibu stated this on Wednesday: “The Nigerian Army, when the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Ltd., Mr Tony Attah, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Army Headquarters, Abuja.

The COAS described energy security as an important component of national security, stressing that safeguarding strategic energy assets was vital to economic stability, industrial productivity and national development.
He assured the company of the Army’s continued support in securing critical infrastructure and creating a safe environment for legitimate economic activities to thrive.
Shaibu said the expansion of Army formations, supported by increased manpower, improved infrastructure and enhanced capabilities, would boost the service’s operational reach and responsiveness.
He said the transformation would enable the Army to better respond to emerging security challenges and strengthen the protection of critical national assets.
The Army Chief also underscored the importance of sustained engagement between energy companies and host communities in promoting peace and stability.
He commended Renaissance Africa Energy for its efforts to build constructive relationships with communities within its areas of operation.
Shaibu said mutual trust, dialogue and shared interests were essential to preventing tensions and creating an environment conducive to sustainable economic activities.
Earlier, Attah commended the Nigerian Army for the sacrifices of its personnel in securing the country and protecting strategic economic assets.
He said a secure operating environment was essential to the sustainability and growth of the energy sector.
Attah pledged the company’s continued commitment to energy security, indigenous capacity development and industrialisation in Nigeria.
