A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mary Ikoku, has said the forthcoming party convention represents a critical moment for strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions and political stability.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Ikoku, the Assistant Secretary of the Media and Publicity committee of the convention, noted that political parties remain central to democratic consolidation, stressing that well-organised conventions reinforce public confidence in governance.
According to her, the APC convention, set for March 26 and 27 in Abuja, goes beyond routine party activities and serves as a platform to demonstrate internal order, leadership continuity, and national cohesion.

“Democracy does not start on election day; it starts within political parties,” she said, adding that the convention reflects the party’s commitment to structured leadership processes and inclusive participation.
Ikoku explained that delegates drawn from across the country would participate in the process, ensuring that decisions reflect the collective will of party members at different levels.
She further noted that the convention provides an opportunity for the party to review its direction, strengthen internal alignment, and reaffirm its governance priorities, particularly in the context of national expectations.
The APC, she said, is focused on delivering a convention that showcases discipline, unity, and organisational strength, which are essential for sustaining democratic growth in Nigeria.

She also emphasised the importance of effective communication and coordination, noting that the Media and Publicity Committee has put in place mechanisms to ensure consistent messaging and accurate information dissemination before, during, and after the convention.
Ikoku added that beyond internal processes, the convention sends a broader message to Nigerians and the international community about the maturity and resilience of Nigeria’s democratic system.
“The world is watching, and what they will see is a party committed to democratic principles and national progress,” she said.
