Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has dismissed claims that he has been rejected by the Mexican government, saying his delayed resumption is due to the ongoing World Cup being hosted by Mexico and the United States.
Newsextra24 reports that Omokri stated this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The former presidential aide said reports suggesting that Mexico had rejected him were being promoted by the opposition.
Omokri said Mexico was currently focused on hosting the World Cup and had not rejected his diplomatic posting.
“Mexico has not rejected me. Not at all. You should understand that Mexico is right now hosting the World Cup, along with the United States of America, and all of their focus is on that,” he said.
He added that several other Nigerian ambassadors had also not resumed at their countries of posting.
“Most of us ambassadors, have not resumed. So, I’m not the only one. A lot of my colleagues are in my situation, but it’s okay. These things happen,” Omokri said.
Omokri accused the opposition of pushing the claim that he had been rejected.
He said, “The opposition will always say things like I have been rejected. We do not work on the basis of the opposition. We work on the basis of reality.
“The reality of it is that we have countries in the world that respect Nigeria, and they’re going to be taking Nigeria’s envoys.”
