THE Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Waheed Ayilara is dead.
Newsextra24 learnt that Ayilara died in the early of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Sources close to the family who spoke with The Nation said he underwent a prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday before he died hours later.
”We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead,” the family member said.
Late last year, Ayilara had a stint as acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos.
The former Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, took over from AIG Idowu Owohunwa.
It was after acting as head of Lagos Police Command that he was deployed to Akwa Ibom.
