A 50-year-old woman, Kemi Akala, on Monday, appeared appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly collecting N2,000,000 under false pretences.
Akala is facing a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and felony to wit: stealing, to which she, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 26, 2023 at about 4:50 p.m. at No. 5, Simeon Str., Odogunyan area of Ikorodu.
Famuyiwa said that the defendant fraudulently collected the money under the pretence of selling a car to one Mr Elvis Ocha, the complainant.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 314(1)(3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate A.O. Ogbe granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Ogbe adjourned the case till May 30 for mention. (NAN)
