45-year old Businessman Docked Over Alleged illegal Possession Of Firearm

A 45-year old businessman, Omoola Oyekola, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged illegal possession of firearm.

The defendant, who resides at Block 7, Opeyemi Avenue, Adamo Ikorodu, Lagos, is being tried for possession of firearm.

The Prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that Oyekola committed the offence at Laspotech Gate, along Shagamu Road, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Odugbo said that a police patrol team operating in the area discovered a pulp action rifle and a live cartridge inside the defendant’s Toyota Venza SUV.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of how he acquired the gun.

He said that the offence contravened Section 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Miss M. F Onamusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Onamusi adjourned the case until May 7 for mention.(NAN)
