A 34-year-old man, Amos Fidelis, on Thursday appeared before an A Magistrates’ Court
Fidelis, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at Federal Housing Estate in Ado-Ekiti.
Bamikole said that the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant, Mr Obas Abdullah and stole different items worth N8 million.
He said the defendant stole some shoes, palm slippers and clothes.
Bamikole said the offences contravened Section 324(1) and (2) and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
Defence Counsel, Mr Femi Olarewaju urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Anoma said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to Ekiti Government
She adjourned the case to March 4 for mention.
