2027: Shinkafi backs Yari to lead Tinubu/Shettima campaign council

A former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari to lead the 2027 Tinubu/Shettima re-election campaign council.

Shinkafi, who is also an aspirant for the Zamfara North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 election, described Yari as a politician with extensive grassroots experience, organisational capacity and a broad network across the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Shinkafi said the composition of the campaign council by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency demonstrated the administration’s commitment to political inclusivity and competence.

He said Yari’s experience in party organisation and governance made him suitable to coordinate the campaign for President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

According to him, Yari’s political career has been built from the grassroots, beginning with his service as Secretary and later Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Zamfara State.

Shinkafi recalled that Yari played a leading role in the campaign that secured the re-election of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima, in 2003, describing the feat as an indication of his organisational and political abilities.

He also highlighted Yari’s experience as National Treasurer of the ANPP and his subsequent service in the House of Representatives, where he represented Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency between 2007 and 2011.

Shinkafi further pointed to Yari’s tenure as Governor of Zamfara State and his role in supporting the formation of the APC, describing him as one of the political stakeholders who contributed to the party’s establishment in the state.

He said Yari’s understanding of party structures, traditional institutions, youth and women organisations, as well as his political relationships across the country, would be valuable to the campaign council.

“Senator Yari stands today as an undeniable pillar of political strength in Zamfara, across Northern Nigeria, and indeed throughout the entire Federation,” Shinkafi said.

The former APGA national secretary also praised what he described as Yari’s background in Islamic and Western education, saying his upbringing and educational experience had contributed to his leadership qualities.

Shinkafi, who served as a patron of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, urged APC members, stakeholders and Nigerians who support democratic development to cooperate with the campaign council.

He expressed confidence that the council, under Yari’s leadership, would operate with discipline and focus and work towards securing victory for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket and the APC in the 2027 general elections.
