2027: Senator Katung declares re-election bid, pledges to consolidate gains

Kaduna Senator laments women, children's abduction, to facilitate Forward  Operation Base

Sen. Sunday Katung (APC-Kaduna South) has formally declared his intention to seek re-election in 2027, pledging to consolidate on the achievements recorded during his first term in office.

Katung made the declaration during a presentation of his stewardship on Saturday in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The senator said that he had laid a solid foundation for the transformation of Southern Kaduna through effective representation, legislative engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

He listed some of his achievements to include sponsorship of bills for the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, and the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

He added that, in partnership with an international non-governmental organisation, he had secured medical equipment worth N8 billion to strengthen healthcare delivery across hospitals in Southern Kaduna.

Katung further said that other achievements recorded under his leadership included the empowerment of more than 700 entrepreneurs with tools and grants, as well as the award of scholarships to over 1,000 tertiary institution students, among others.

According to him, the interventions recorded in the district were products of strategic partnerships and committed leadership.

“Through focused legislative engagement in the Senate and strategic collaboration across all levels of government, we have laid a strong foundation for the transformation of our senatorial district.

“Today is an opportunity to reflect on purposeful leadership, effective representation and the tangible dividends of democracy that our people can see and touch,” he said.

In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hajiya Hadiza Balarabe, said that leadership should be measured by results and commitment to the welfare of the people rather than promises.

She added that under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and with the support of Gov. Uba Sani, Southern Kaduna had witnessed significant federal and state interventions.

She urged the people of the district to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates in future elections.

According to her, sustained support for the party will help consolidate existing gains and attract more opportunities in education, healthcare, security and agriculture.

Audu Amba, National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and Mr Dan Amos, member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency commended the lawmaker’s contribution to the zone and expressed confidence in his capacity to attract more development.

They said the lawmaker had demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people through various interventions and urged constituents to support his ambition.
